Experience API is a new standard for e-learning applications that allows storing the interactions performed by a learner not only within the LMS; this is where its advantage over SCORM lies. It enables the tracking of activities across different devices, whether or not they are connected to the Internet. In the latter case, the learning experiences are temporarily stored on the device until they are resumed or the connection is restored.
Another new idea in developing this standard is that so-called non-formal learning experiences can be recorded and exchanged between systems: activities in games, occasional readings of articles, activities in social networks, etc. This means that a game or a blog could be compatible with this standard and add information about a user’s non-formal learning.
