What is SMOWL’s environment monitoring?

Environment monitoring – known as Enviro Scan – is a SMOWL feature that allows connecting a second camera to the user’s device – such as a mobile phone or tablet – to obtain a wider view of the space where the exam takes place.

This helps identify improper behavior that would not be visible with a single front-facing camera, such as the presence of other people, use of unauthorized materials, or auxiliary devices.

How does SMOWL’s environment monitoring work?

The user connects a second camera through a secure link and a QR code provided by SMOWL. This external camera must be positioned at an angle that allows monitoring the entire room or desk, complementing the front-facing supervision of the main webcam.

During the exam, both streams are captured in sync, and any anomaly detected is recorded in the system reports. The process is simple, step-by-step guided, and fully compliant with privacy and data protection principles.
